摘要:Various products are used prior and during competition to improve performance in team and individual sports.Carbohydrate drinks are the most popular in our country.There are varying results concerning the intake of carbohydrate prior to competition in research done on the subject.This type of ergogenic aid helps saturating glycogen stores.This study was carried out on 15 male athletes (23±3 yrs,l∙76±0.0 8 m,72.8±7.8 kg)∙ The carbohydrate content of their diets was kept constant fo r the three days prior to the tests.An amount of 5 ml/kg body weight o f electrolyte drink containing placebo or 6.9o∕o carbohydrate was given to the sub jects in a double blind setup.The tests on a bicycle ergometer consisted of five stages of 3 min each at increasing (45%,70% and 90% of maximal heart rate as target) loads.Venous blood sam ples were withdrawn during the last 30 secs of each stage.In the carbohydrate test,the mean duration at the 4.0 mmol/1 lactate level was 5.6 min and the mean heart rate was 13 2/min;in the placebo test,the mean duration at the same lactate level was 6.0 min and the mean heart rate was 136/min.As a result,no significant effect on the anaerobic threshold was seen upon prior use of a carbohydrate drink.
