摘要：Nedim Gürsel is one of the important names of the modern Turkish literature. He has more than thirty literary works (i.e. interviews,essays,literary critiques,novels,stories,poems,memoirs,travel notes,etc.). Death under The Sun is his one of the works in which he tells his impressions about his trip to Spain. The author mentions The Dance in Andalusia a poem Yahya Kemal wrote when he was an ambassador in Madrid and says: "The last Ottoman poet would not think about the blood of a Spanish poet shot by fascists in the same city during the Spanish civil war! In an Andalusian evening,he saw red three times,but he did not want to see blood. But I knew it from Machado’s verses,that a murder was committed in Granada,in Lorca’s Granada." With such descriptions,Nedim Gursel criticizes Yahya Kemal for having not covered,in his famous poem entitled Dance in Andalusia,the assassination of the socialist poet Federico Garcia Lorca's by General Franco’s supporters during the Spanish civil war. He does not consider Yahya Kemal a poet of the Republic of Turkey period although Kemal has works and an important impact on this time period. Gürsel says that Yahya Kemal is an Ottoman poet. However,Yahya Kemal is one of the most important representatives of the modern Turkish poetry. In this paper,these two ideas of Nedim Gürsel will be discussed. The two ideas are the historical reason why Yahya Kemal,in his poem The Dance in Andalusia where he describes the beauty of an Andalusian brunette,did not cover the blood of the socialist poet Lorca (because of his blood’s redness) and why Gürsel considers Yahya Kemal an Ottoman period poet. Clarifications will be made through the discussion.
