摘要:The main purpose of the research is to reveal the perspectives of preschool teacher candidates about gender equality and its place on the Turkish education system and to describe their experience in school about this topic. In this research,phenomology is used from qualitative research designs. The study group is consist of 16 preschool teacher candidates who are educated at one of the pucblic universities in Ankara,Turkey. Interview method was used as data collection method in the study. For this,a semi-structured interview form was prepared and applied. The data were analyzed according to the content analysis technique. As a result of the study,five themes were determined. These include ‘the meaning of gender equality’,‘beliefs about gender equality and applicability’,‘situations relating to gender equality/inequality in pre-school education institutions’,‘the place of gender equality in Turkish education system’ and ‘suggestions for solutions to the implications of gender equality’. Preschool teacher candidates have stated that they believe gender equality but gender equality not be fully applied in Turkey. However,statements have been made indicating that teacher candidates have stereotypes regarding gender roles. It also turned out that only one male teacher candidate between three really believed in gender equality. The absence of a compulsory course on gender equality in the under graduate program of preschool teachers has emerged as a shortcoming. As a result of this research,it was suggested that it can be opened a new course about gender equality to teacher candidates and made compulsory in-service training to teachers thus stereotypes related to gender roles could be destroyed and the beliefs of children about the gender equality could be positively affected.
