摘要：Alhough Henryk Sienkiewicz’s musical competence was not extensive,his writing shows predilection for the harmony of such eminent composers as Beethoven and Schumann. Musical thematisations that highlight the transcendent skills released upon contact with this subtlest of arts transpire mostly in Without dogma and Swirls. In the case of the latter,music becomes a signature of the superior upper echelon and culture,which the writer takes to be a stronghold of Poland and an oasis of beauty,an indicator that is as much aesthetic as it is ethical. The figure of Saint Cecilia,the patroness of music,is invoked to indicate femininity as the ostension of beauty. The novel Swirls is also an attempt at transposing music onto picture by a peculiar form of ekphrasis - a poetic prose description of Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata..
