摘要：The author articulates his subjective view and outlines his stance on contemporary sociology. He says he belongs to the generation of sociologists born in 1935–1945 (Milan Petrusek,Jiří Linhart,Ivo Možný,Josef Alan,Jaroslav Střítecký,Michal Illner,Karel Müller,Jiří Večerník,František Zich,Ilja Šrubař,Václav Bělohradský,and others),who often joined the ranks of sociologists when the discipline was revived in the mid-1960s following studies in disciplines which were related to sociology only superficially. He associates their scholarly maturing with the political and social developments of the 1950s and 1960s. He judges his path to sociology to have been rather transdisciplinary,sometimes encompassing philosophy,history and sociology,and analyses some influences that shaped his thinking (Mukařovský,Weber,Popper). He prefers a somewhat theoretical problematic conception of science over quantitative gathering of data and descriptions,which is,in the spirit of Max Weber,non-relativistic sociological pluralism. In humanities research he calls for a consistent coming to terms with the state of the humanities and thorough formulation of research questions,and developing the reflective and critical aspects of sociology. Another important notion for him is ‘situating’ of individuals,groups and problems,i.e. intuiting different social,cultural and historical and political constellations,and the related ‘constellation conditionality’,‘heterogony of motives’,and Elias’s historico-social ‘figuration’. He has attempted to incorporate all these stimuli with his colleagues Johann Arnasson and Jiří Šubrt in the Faculty of Humanities into a separate discipline,historical sociology,which is being successfully developed..
