摘要:The fact that volume 65 (issue 1)/1990 of “Speculum” (Medieval Academy of America, Cambridge) was assigned to Philologycould be interpreted in two ways: as a reverence to a discipline which, in medieval studies, was “the matrix out of which all else springs” (Nichols, 1990, p. 1), and also as a salutary intention concerning the recognition of its similar status in the larger field of modern humanities.
