  • 摘要:Nathalie Sarraute’s distrust in language shows how words are like masks hiding reality instead of transcribing it. The author treats words as menacing objects, as proven by the multiple examples taken from the universe of the psychotics who have no access to symbolic function, subjectivity and social interaction. Words suffocate the characters, become their mortuary masks, and even embody them. Fortunately, Sarraute manages to turn language against itself, by using images that give a closer insight and feeling of the world. Sometimes, the looser representation allows reality to strike back, enhancing a feeling of the uncanny; it is as if the literary work is looking back and scrutinizing its reader, in the same way psychosis scrutinizes and questions society’s ways.
