摘要:Necessity and ritual at the same time, food is an important part of the cultural profile of a people, and is closely linked to its socio-anthropological representations. In our article, we aim to analyse the recurring meanings of food and cooking in the anecdotes recorded and presented by Hristu Cândroveanu in his Anthology of Aromanian Prose (Antologie de proză aromână). All the anecdotes recorded in Cândroveanu’s collection have food as a pretext for the events taking place in the traditional Aromanian village. Often forced by dramatic events in the long troubled history of the Balkans to temporarily leave their homeland, the Aromanians have striven to preserve their culture; meanwhile, however, they were exposed to foreign influences, which they have embedded – in a symbiotic manner – in their ways of living. No wonder basic ingredients and recipes of the Aromanian cuisine sometimes borrow a strong Oriental or / and Mediterranean flavour.
