摘要：Starting with a general presentation of the most important concepts in cultural memory studies, this article has as an aim to test some of these theoretical tools in the analysis of Iberian chivalry books from the sixteenth century. To this purpose, we will primarily focus on theories that consider literature as a medium and a producer of cultural memory; afterwards, we will apply those very theories and concepts to the analysis of Jorge Ferreira de Vasconcelos’ 1567 Memorial das Proezas da Segunda Távola Redonda. Based mainly on concepts such as cultural memory, memory of literature and memory in literature, the present study proposes a new kind of methodological approach to chivalric narratives, fostering new readings and interpretations.
