摘要：A dynamic development of electronic information technologies and an increase in the significance of knowledge in all areas of social-economical sphere are characteristic features of knowledge based economy. Recently a new approach in the knowledge based economy can be observed, and this has also been present in the guidelines on EU programs. According to them research activities are determined by social needs, which actually means by producers, and not as it previously was – mainly by the research community. This tendency is also seen in the wood industry. Effective external sources of knowledge have a positive influence on the competitiveness of wood industry companies. The purpose of this paper is to present a positive influence of new information technologies on the management process in companies through the creation and usage of interactive data bases, which are important tools fostering cooperation between industry and r&d. They clear the way for identification of gaps between the industry needs and research capabilities so as to adjust supply of research to the demand. As a result, both enterprises and research institutions can optimize their activity.
