摘要：The purpose of this study is to investigate the reading comprehension skills of six-year-old children during their into primary school in terms of various factors. The study is a descriptive one in survey model. The population of the study is composed of the first grade students studying in primary schools in the center of Malatya and the sample is formed by 150 first grade students selected from the population through random sampling method. “General Information Sheet” and “Reading Comprehension Evaluation Sheet” which was developed by the researcher were used as data collection tools during the study. In the "General Information Sheet", information regarding the gender of the child, his/her preschool training and the educational level of parents were included. And in the "Reading Comprehension Evaluation Sheet", there were seven questions about thecontent of the short story called “the Glasses of My Grandma” which is one of the favorite stories of first grade students. SPSS 22 packaged software was used to analyze the data. The data were analyzed using frequency and percentage tables, independent samples t test and one-way analysis of variance. The results of the study revealed that the reading comprehension skills in those sixyear-old children is unsuccessful. Suggestions were made in accordance with results of the study.
