  • 摘要:The purpose of this research was to determine the views of parents and teachers on the legibility of the handwritings of elementary school students. The research, in which the descriptive survey model was used, was conducted between the months of October and January in the fall semester of the 2016-2017 academic year in elementary schools in the central Kırıkkale province. The study group consisted of 117 elementary school classroom teachers and 139 parents. As data collection tools, (1) The Parent Questionnaire on the Legibility of Elementary School Students’ Handwritings and (2) The Teacher Questionnaire on the Legibility of Elementary School Students’ Handwritings, which were prepared by the researchers, were used. Descriptive analysis andcontent analysis techniques were used for data analysis. The results showed that half of the teachers considered the handwritings of their students legible. Among the reasons for the teachers’ considering elementary school students’ handwritings illegible were that the students did not like to write, that they behaved carelessly, hastily and sloppily when they wrote, that cursive handwriting was not appropriate to the developmental level of elementary school students, that the writing education in the first grade was inadequate, and that the students held their pencils incorrectly in their hands as they wrote. Approximately 62% of the parents who participated in the survey thought that their children were successful in writing legibly while 37% thought that their children had to improve the legibility of their handwritings. 62% of the parents reported that they were trying to help their children’s handwriting practices at home while 38% reported that they did not provide support to their children for their handwriting practices.
