摘要:In communication, extralinguistic signs are as important as the language used. Especially, in books prepared for preschoolers and children who begin to read anew, the messages conveyed by visuals are very important. Children that age can often interpret those visuals by themselves and they can either talk about them by making up a story or talk about them by themselves. The purpose of this study is to determine the importance of extralinguistic signs used in making sense of tales and interpreting them by children in this age period. To this end, images in the worldwide known classic tale books, The Town Musicians of Bremen, Puss in Boots, Cinderella, Snow White, and Sleeping Beauty were examined, using the theory by Charles Sanders Peirce. Thus, the place and importance of extralinguistic signs in the internalization of tales were determined.
