摘要:The primary literacy teaching course is one of the core curriculum courses in the undergraduate programme. The aim of this study is to determine the attitudes of preservice elementary school teachers towards primary literacy teaching. A mixed research approach was employed in the study. The sample was made up of students studying in the Classroom Teaching Department at Kafkas University during the 2017-2018 academic year. The quantitative data related to the study were collected by means of the “Attitude Scale for the Primary Literacy Teaching Course” developed by Arslan and Aytaç (2010). The qualitative data were gathered by conducting semistructured interviews with the preservice teachers. It was found that the preservice teachers’ attitudes towards the primary literacy course were positive, they were enthusiastic towards the course, they regarded the course as necessary and they gave importance to the course. It was also determined that their attitudes towards the primary literacy course did not differ according to grade level, but they differed according to whether the course was taught theoretically or practically, to gender, and to academic grade point average. The preservice teachersrecommended that the course should be taught practically and its time period should be increased.
