  • 标题:The Interactive Effect of High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) and Selenium Consumption on Superoxide Dismutase (SOD) and Glutathione Peroxidase (GPX) in the Heart Tissue of Cadmium-Poisoned Rats (Cd)

  • 摘要:Background and Aim: Cadmium (Cd) is a heavy toxic metal that effectively causes an imbalance of oxidant-antioxidant in the human body. The purpose of this study is to measure the interactive effect of high intensity interval training (HIIT) and selenium consumption on superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GPX) in the heart tissue of the rats poisoned with cadmium (Cd). Methods: In the present experimental study, 30 male Sprague Dawley rats were selected and randomly divided into six groups of five subjects, including: (1) control, (2) sham, (3) cadmium intake, (4) selenium consumption with cadmium intake, (5) HIIT with cadmium intake (6) HIIT with cadmium intake and selenium consumption. Rats in groups 3, 4, 5 and 6 were peritoneally exposed to 2mg/kg of cadmium each day for eight weeks. Also, rats in groups 4 and 6 received 0.23 mg/kg of selenium each day, and groups 5 and 6 performed HIIT three days a week over an eight-week period. At the end of protocol, the rats were sacrificed and their heart tissues were removed to measure gene expression of SOD and GPX. Data were analyzed by Kolmogorov–Smirnov test, Independent samples t-test and two-way ANOVA (p≥ 0.05). Results: Eight weeks of HIIT and selenium consumption results in significant increase in the gene expression of SOD and GPX in the cadmium-poisoned rats (p≤0.05); also, interactive effect of HIIT and selenium consumption on the increase in the gene expression of SOD and GPX in the cadmium-exposed rats is significant (p≤0.05). Conclusion: Eight weeks of selenium consumption and HIIT has interactive effect on the increase in gene expression of SOD and GPX in the cadmium-exposed rats.
