  • 摘要:The purpose of this research is to improve character and cognitive achievement of students through the implementation of the role playing method in the learning of social studies. This research is classroom action research conducted in three cycles. The location the research was state elementary school of Tridadi Distric of Sleman. The kind of the intervention implemented was role playing method in social studies instruction. Data colection was conducted through observation, interview, achievement test, and document analysis. The result of this research shows that the instruction process of social studies by implementing a role playing method can improve student’s character at the aspect of honesty, cooperation and responsibility. The improvement of honesty is 42.85% in Cycle 1, 52.9% in Cycle II and 67% in Cycle III. Cooperation is 42.14% in Cycle I, 51.9% in Cycle II, and 62% in Cycle III. Responsibility is 44.6% in Cycle I, 54.1% in Cycle II and 64.1% in Cycle III. Improvement of cognitive achivement in Cycle I is 66.57, 72.92 in Cycle II and 74.85 in Cycle III.
