摘要:Main transportation links between Western and Central Europe and Middle East run over the territory of Serbia. Based on its transport-geographic position, Serbia should have leading integration and transit role among South-East European countries. Because of the war conflict and international isolation Serbia partly lost that role for which it is predetermined by alternative transport links which were established over the territories of neighboring countries. In exclusively spatial context, Serbia has relatively developed road and rail networks, as well as important inland waterway routes and sufficient number of airports. In spite of those facts, basic characteristic of transport infrastructure of Serbia is its bad condition, which is consequence of insufficient investments in its maintaining and modernization. Setting of efficient transport infrastructure and its connection with Trans-European and Pan-European transport networks (TENs and TINA networks) is crucial for rehabilitation of Serbian former importance in this part of Europe. Having in mind its transport-geographic position, Belgrade could be one of the key nodes, so-called gate-cities, with main European transportation routes convergence toward it.
