摘要：The alluvial planes of the Danube and the Tisa represent the lowest parts of Bačka. Because of low elevation and close proximity of big water streams, before the construction of protective embankments and drainage systems, they were significantly endangered with high river or external water, as well as by inland excess water, which often resulted in their partial or complete flooding and transformation into marshy or swampy areas. With the aim of gaining new arable areas, alluvial planes of the Danube and the Tisa in the territory of Bačka, were the subject of comprehensive melioration operations aimed at their drainage, dewatering and ultimately cultivation for several decades. In this paper, the authors analyzed the types and the scope of melioration measures conducted in the alluvial planes of the Danube and the Tisa in Bačka, as well as their impact.
