摘要:Even though character building asanautonomous subjectamong student does not exist in secondary school,Islamic Education(PAI),as one of the subjects in school related to character building,hasto play its role in building students’ character. This study aims to revealthe problems related to PAI learning process in SMP 3 and its role inbuilding students’ noble character. This study was qualitative using ob-servational case studies. The data were obtained through interviews,ques-tionnaires,and documents and were analyzed using qualitative analysistechniques with the inductive approach. The documents were suchlegal decisions of officials in Educational Ministry,the syllabi,curricu-lums,and teaching planning (RPP).The result shows that PAI learning has an important role in buildingstudents’ noble character if it is supported by competent lecturers,good inputs,adequate materials,and good processes. Character build-ing learning was taught integrated and aimed to shape noble characteramong the students of SMP 3 Pekalongan. It was accommodated inPAI learning,citizenship learning and local contain subject,such asJavanese language and Cookery Learning. Unfortunately,the sustainabilityand comprehensiveness of character building learning in PAI curricu-lum were not seriously attended. Nevertheless,they were taught inte-grated in pilot project program and evaluated gradually and compre-hensively.
