摘要:Teaching creativity in digitalmediacomes with itschallenges. Obvious questionsarise:what is the mosteffectivecreative process? what tools should be used? what is theright format? As Maslow’s Hammer reminds us, if you only havea hammer, everything looks likea nail; perhaps the challengeis that of perception. In thisarticle wereflect on an experimental digitalfictionworkshop that took placein thesummer of 2014. The workshop aimed to explorethe boundaries of digitalfiction usingOpenWeb technology. Thearticle discusses howprocessand tools forgethe pathwaysand ultimately shape our outcomes. As we work to establish fully digitalworkflowsand widely-adopted tools forcreating digital narratives, weinadvertently limit our possibilitiesand fallinto producing thesameformatsand modes ofinteraction overand over. In this nascent form, digitalfiction requireseffortsaimed for thefringes, to explorethe boundaries ofmediumand genre. Today’s softwareauthoring toolsare designed forcarefully composing and organizing content, notcollaboratively improvising to create newforms ofcontent, navigation and experience. Withouta better understanding ofthe materiality of digitalmedia gained through code proficiency and improvising on theform, wearelimiting our ability to achieve moresophisticated forms ofexpression.
