摘要:This article is a theoretical as well as a practical overview of the hierarchical cluster analysis method. First, the method is presented according to the seven-step procedure proposed by Rapkin and Luke (1993). The stakes associated with each of these steps are discussed and the most currently used methods are detailed. Then, a study about the quality of life of type I diabetic patients who have received a transplant serves as an example. In this study, the hierarchical cluster procedure yielded two profiles of quality of life among these patients. Moreover, the class validation suggests some determinants of quality of life, including the type of transplant that was received. Finally, hierarchical cluster analysis is discussed in the present context of research in the field of psychology.
