  • 摘要:Weigel was speaking to a group of young graduate students at a time when the North American University had not yet inaugurated its headlong flight into professional programs of every description and at every level of instruction. If memory serves this reviewer correctly, his argument was that the university was properly the place of intellectual endeavour that was prepared to re-examine the first principles of the various disciplines. Professional schools, on the other hand, existed to provide agreed-upon intellectual resources in order to function in practical settings.
