摘要：A imaginação é frequentemente confundida com devaneios sem impacto na realidade, tendo sido historicamente preterida pela Psicologia face a outras faculdades mentais. No entanto, como função psíquica superior, desempenha papel fundamental na atividade consciente humana. Especialmente, no trabalho. Objetiva-se discutir neste artigo, baseado na Psicologia Histórico-Cultural, a relação entre imaginação e o controle da subjetividade no campo do trabalho; bem como defender a tese de que o controle da imaginação pode alterar a relação do indivíduo com a realidade e os processos psíquicos de produção de imagem subjetiva da realidade objetiva. A partir disso, propõem-se duas formas predominantes de processos cognitivo-afetivos, que se manifestam como tendências do psiquismo humano: um cuja prevalência ocorre por meio do exercício da imaginação criativa; e outro por meio do “realismo fatalista e conformista”, entendido como a forma de imaginação típica do trabalho alienado, responsável pelo exercício da imaginação como produção de imagens fictícias.
