摘要：Partindo da noção de que o sentido é determinado, isto é, de que a possibilidadeda polissemia e da “abertura” do sentido – proposta pela crítica contemporânea– concerne ao universo das disputas acerca da interpretação, não colocandoem questão a necessidade fundamental de engajamento do leitor com aquiloque lê, propõe-se aqui a idéia de que esse modo de ver tende a confundir aliberdade inerente ao ato com certa arbitrariedade ou necessidade de controlesobre o significado que dominam o ambiente da crítica. No entanto, a liberdade,manifestando-se como essencial à leitura, funda um espaço onde o ato de leradquire uma dimensão própria, que não autoriza nem justifica o jogo arbitráriodas interpretações.
