摘要:Health is a fundamental right.In Brazil this right is provided to the public via the SUS, which is governed by principles and guidelines.As a system that offers comprehensive care, the SUS should offer mental health care.Such assistance has undergone profound changes related to the process of deinstitutionalization.This study aimed to present an experience of two police officers, in a police station in the state of São Paulo, in the conduct of a case of drug user with mental disorders and homeless.Attended the unit, municipal guards leading the individual with aggressive behavior and history of previous police records.Through case analysis, was examined the difficulties related to the inefficiency of government to provide adequate mental health care.It was concluded that the inertia and inefficiency of the government, to provide quality care treat violations of human dignity, the adequacy of mental health services offered by the municipality and the implementation of educational activities aimed at populations and public safety staff is extremely necessary in order to change their perceptions of the about the person who has care needs your mental health.
