摘要：This qualitative, descriptive, analytical and documental study aimed at reflecting on the therapeutic communities in the context of psychiatric reform in Brazil.This article enabled a discussion on several aspects regarding the functioning and the therapeutic character of the therapeutic communities which represent today a possibility of mental health treatment and rehabilitation within the mental health network in this country.However, its role as a mental health service within the network is not clear, as well as its objectives are not in accordance with the laws that affirm the rights of the persons with mental health disorders.Authors conclude about the importance of thinking about the construction of an effective network for the treatment and follow-up assuring the articulation and integration of the different services which are part of the mental health network within the territory, qualifying the care through reception, treatment and continuous follow-up.
