摘要:The problems associated with consumption of alcohol among drivers are considered a major public health problem mostly in developing countries.Ethanol is a type of drug that affects the central nervous system (CNS) and impairs driving skills and co-ordination, increasing risk of deaths and injuries derived from crashes and road traffic.Consumption of alcoholic beverages is implicated with premature deaths, injuries and damages caused by motor vehicle crashes, which result in high costs to government and society.Based on that, the work in question was aimed at carrying out a transversal, retrospective, descriptive and comparative study of the prevalence of alcohol use among individuals involved in violations and traffic accidents that occurred in the regions accommodate by NPML Araraquara, among years 2005 and 2007, and the characterization of these events.The results revealed a prevalence of positive blood alcohol among males aged between 36-55 years old.And the traffic accidents occurred mainly on Sunday nights and in September.Therefore, this study shows that drinking and drive plus negligence and imprudence, results in numerous infractions and traffic accidents around the world.
