摘要:Ketamine is an anesthetic drug developed in the 1960s by the American laboratory Parke & Davis, its main one is anesthesia in humans and animals. It is described in the literature as a dissociative anesthetic, because of its use providing an intense sensation of dissociation of the medium, marked sensorial loss and analgesia, as well as amnesia and paralysis of movement, without real loss of consciousness. It has properties that make it useful for Procedures. Its mechanism of action is based on the antagonism of N-methyl-D-aspartate-type ionotropic glutamatergic receptors.Following the glutamatergic hypothesis of schizophrenia, ketamine is used as a possible model of schizophrenia, it is used in research to recreate behaviors similar to the positive and negative symptoms of schizophrenia in guinea pigs.Currently its illicit use has become popular among young people, who use it due to its hallucinogenic and dissociative properties, which makes evident the need for greater knowledge about its toxicological properties.
