摘要：This paper highlights the concept 'knowledge and information society', reviews the status of libraries in Africa, and explores the challenges facing libraries in today's society. The study concludes that while some African libraries, and South African libraries in particular, are actively part of the knowledge and information society, the same cannot be said for most libraries in Africa.
