摘要:According to the influence-of-presumed-media-influence-approach; people change their attitudes or behaviors because they estimate strong media effects on others. For example; it has been shown that parliamentarians’ media motivations are influenced by their perceptions of the media influence on the public. To date; however; only scant attention has been paid to the influence of presumed media influence in the sphere of local politics. Local parliamentarians also compete for media attention – but in the majority of cases without any professional support and with limited time. To investigate presumed media influences and their consequences on local politicians; a survey study was conducted. It took place in Cologne; Germany. 76 of the city’s parliamentarians participated. The results show that the greater the level of influence on the population of the city local politicians ascribed to particular media; the more they declared these media to be important for their communication with the public.
