标题:Hörspielrezeption und räumliches Präsenzerleben. Der Einfluss von Geräuschen auf das Gefühl der Anwesenheit in der medialen Welt Audio drama and spatial presence. Sound effects and their influence on the experience of presence in the mediated world
摘要:Spatial presence - the subjective feeling of being present in a mediated world - as a reception phenomenon has been primarily investigated with regard to interactive and/or multimodal media. The present study addresses spatial presence during the reception of audio drama; testing the influence of sound effects on the subjective feeling of being present in the mediated environment. Based on the two-level model of the formation of Spatial Presence by Wirth et al. (2007) we propose; that sound effects stimulate attention; involvement and suspension of disbelief; support the formation of a spatial situation model and; as a result; promote the experience of spatial presence. These propositions were tested in a singlefactor between-subjects design (two groups: without sound effects vs. sound effects; N = 82 undergraduate students). No significant effects of sound effects on attention or the construction of spatial situation models were found. However; an indirect effect of sound effects on perceived self-localization in the mediated environment was observed. Thus; sound effects might further the experience of spatial presence primarily by drawing off the users’ thoughts from the immediate; ‚real‘ environment and keeping them cognitively and emotionally involved with the mediated environment.
