摘要:Howare digitaltechnologieschangingwork and professions? Will digitaltechnologies – especiallyArtificialIntelligence – substituteeven knowledge workers?“The Globotics Upheaval” byRichard Baldwin deals with those problems. In order to depictcurrentchanges generated by globalization and automation, Baldwin proposesa processcomposed by four steps, namely transformation, revolution, backlash and solution. The book investigates undoubtedly crucial problems but fails short in giving usaconvincing answer. Theauthorconcludes that the globotics revolution willlead to moresubstitution ofjobs, while generate othersand betters. Thisconclusion is notso original, particularly ifcompared with current works on thetopic. Theauthor’sattempt, whileinteresting, remains superficialmaking evenmoreapparent the need, often disregarded, ofmorein depth investigations rather that thecreation ofad hocconceptsand neologisms. The book is usefulfora basic understanding ofthetopic, but not so usefulfor forecasting thefuture ofwork.
