Abstract The paper is based on the National Information Service (SNI) documentation about Professor José Marques de Melo stored in the National Archives. From records and dossiers found in the Database Memories Revealed, mentioning the founder of the Brazilian Society of Interdisciplinary Communication Studies (Intercom) and emeritus scholar, researcher and theorist of the areas of Journalism and Communication, it is possible to make the thematic reconstitution during the period of the military dictatorship (1964-1985) and to conceive how it elected biographical sponsors to be recorded by the informations community.
