  • 摘要:This paper aims at analyzing the process of production of texts translated from Portuguese into Brazilian Sign Language (Libras) adopted by the Libras Department at UFRJ (Federal University of Rio de Janeiro) and compare it to the process of production of translations for publishing houses between vocal languages. For this purpose, we will describe a methodological proposition for the production of texts translated and recorded in video. Such translations involve a source text in an oral language presented in written — in this case, Brazilian Portuguese — and a target text in a sign language — in this case, Libras — recorded in video. The methodology describes the process from the very beginning — the reception of the order —, and evolves through several steps, such as: study of the material, découpage, translation, proof reading, shooting, editing, checking, re-shooting and delivery of the translated material. One of the objectives of such methodology is to avoid recording what would be in fact simultaneous interpretation. Processes resulting in a translation, with all peculiar features of such activity, were sought. This methodology has been elaborated based on the experience of the translation team of Libras Department, located at the School of Languages & Literatures of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, based on Stone (2009), Silvério et al. (2012), Marques e Oliveira (2012), Taveira et al. (2015), Hespanhol (2012), Galasso et al. (2018), and Pyfers (1999). We believe that the process described in this article may be applied to any translation process having as source a written language and as target a sign language, with no alterations whatsoever, save for those arising from the adequacy to the resources at hand. As in the translation for publishing houses involving two vocal languages well-defined steps for the production of translated books (translation, editing, proofreading, final version of the translation) are also used, based on Moraes (2015) and Machado (2018), the comparative method to align both methodologies was employed. Our objective was to realize which features of the translation of texts into a sign language are different from or similar to those arising from the translation to publishing houses, aiming at clarifying even more the first process. In the final considerations, the roles performed by the translator in both processes — including a critical observation of the lack of interaction between translator and proof-readers in the publishing process — have been highlighted.
