摘要：Este estudio gira en torno a una pintura de gran formato localizada en la capilla del Rosario de la parroquia de San Pedro Apóstol, dentro de la localidad de San Pedro Zacatenco, en la delegación Gustavo A. Madero de la Ciudad de México. En ella se representa con gran detalle un episodio de la solemne procesión que tuvo lugar en la ciudad de México el 29 de octubre de 1727. Se observa el regreso de la imagen de la Virgen de Loreto al colegio de San Gregorio después de la novena celebrada en la catedral de México, cuyo objetivo fue implorar su socorro para acabar con la epidemia que asolaba a la capital. Es una de esas escasas y ricas fuentes empapadas de un instante de vida cotidiana que, además, permite apreciar el uso político, social y ritual del espacio urbano en el ejercicio del poder al poner en escena, públicamente, la jerarquía social y -después- conmemorarla pictóricamente. Se propone que la pintura conmemora una alianza entre los jesuitas y las más altas autoridades novohispanas.
其他摘要：This essay considers a monumental painting located in the chapel of the Virgin of the Rosary in the parish church of San Pedro Zacatenco, delegación Gustavo A. Madero, Mexico City. It depicts a religious procession – that took place on 1727 to ask for release from an epidemic. Its particular history is uncovered in order to posit that the painting functions as a visual pact, commemorating a moment of agreement and alliance between the Jesuits and the highest ecclesiastic authorities of Mexico. At the same time, this essay examines the ways this work is different from other paintings of the genre. It is unusually detailed, and this is visible in its treatment of individual figures, their costumes, and its remarkable inclusion of almost the entire processional route. Finally, it also illuminates important aspects of colonial Mexico City that speak to broader patterns in the early modern Spanish world regarding the political, social and ritual use of urban space and the need to perform social hierarchy publicly and then commemorate it pictorially.
