摘要：Dentro das abordagens na área de segurança pública, e fora dela, acerca da questão do encarceramento, Michel Foucault e Erving Goffman são referências que costumeiramente fazem parte do diálogo. O presente artigo constitui uma tentativa de ilustrar, por meio dos conceitos de instituição total e sociedade disciplinar, como determinadas teorias não devem ser utilizadas de maneira pura para evocar e denotar aspectos de uma realidade complexa. Será utilizada a realidade brasileira como ponto de partida para compreender dinâmicas institucionais nos presídios, revelando a existência de ordens emergentes que não necessariamente comungam com os aspectos apresentados por Foucault (1999) e Goffman (2001).
其他摘要：Within the approaches to public safety, and beyond it, about the issue of incarceration, Michel Foucault and Erving Goffman are references that usually are part of the dialogue. This article is an attempt to illustrate, through the concepts of total institution and disciplinary society, as certain theories should not be used in ‘pure’ way to evoke and denote aspects of a complex reality. For this initiative, the Brazilian reality is used as a starting point to understand the institutional dynamics of prisons, revealing the existence of emerging systems, not necessarily commune with the points made by Foucault (1999) and Goffman (2001).
