  • 摘要:One of the aims of higher education is to produce knowledge by conducting scientific research and studies. Academic writing, which includes the resources students read, the homework they do, and the exams they take from the moment they start higher education, and consists of definite criteria and can be defined as a learnable and developable skill, constitutes the basis of knowledge production. In this study, the aim was to investigate the opinions and experiences of Turkish teacher candidates on academic writing. The study is qualitative. The data were collected through a semi-structured interview form developed by the researchers. The interviews were conducted at the İstanbul University - Cerrahpaşa, İstanbul Medeniyet University, Yıldız Technical University and Marmara University during the 2018-2019 academic year with a total of 46 Turkish teacher candidates. Descriptive analysis was used to analyze the data. The data were evaluated and interpreted by taking into consideration the studies in the available literature. It was concluded that the students did academic papers due to their motivation to obtain grades; that they were aware of the general features of scientific discourse; that they had difficulties adapting those features to their own writing, and that they found pieces of academic writing difficult and incomprehensible.
