摘要：The goal of this paper is to present the problems involved in shaping the landscape of towns using the example of Lubelskie Province. The distinguishing features of a small town landscape were described based on the literature. Surveys were then conducted by sending questionnaires via email to the authorities of 28 small towns in Lubelskie Province. The submited responses from 22 towns were used to examine how the local governments in the towns under study were taking care of their public space and the landscape. In addition, the survey touched on the quality of life in towns, revitalisation, coverage of local spatial development plans, the towns’ strengths, problems and development plans and membership in the Citaslow network. The questionnaire was complemented with a free interview and feld observations. In addition, the advantages of membership in the Citaslow network in the case of Rejowiec Fabryczny (the only town in Lubelskie Province belonging to the Citaslow network), and preferences concerning joining Citaslow in the case of the other towns, were examined. This questionnaire survey shows that the local governments in most of the small towns in Lubelskie Province take care of their public space and the landscape. However, they do not use all of the opportunities available for shaping and protecting the landscape, particularly those related to spatial planning instruments.
