摘要：Increasing anthropogenic impact on the environment results in the decrease of its quality and resources. As a consequence,it contributes to the declining attractiveness of the region,economic recession and finallydeterioration of local living standards. Surface mining of historical tradition is the main source of this process in many Polish regions of high nature value. As the mining operation ceases a large post-mining wasteland usually appears. Nevertheless,the potential of its natural amenities still exists and if used properly,it may restore its functions in a way which meets social needs,being both economical and friendly to the environment. Thereby, post-mining areas might contribute to the economic development of the region as well as increase investment activity and natural attractiveness. The Krakow-Czestochowa Upland,which is a region of high nature value and hosts many post-mining areas,was chosen for the study.
