摘要:Thallium has been identified to be an environmentally important element because of its toxic effects. Owing to the high toxicity of thallium, even slightly contamination has been found to cause severe damages, such as loss of hair, nervous disease, inıpaired vision and growth retardation. This compound is used in optical systems, low temperature thennometers, dye pigments, photoelectric cells, and chemical synthesis. Determination of trace amounts of thallium is of great importance because of its toxic nature and also its increasing industrial applications. The main sources of thallium pollution at present are cement production and fossil fuel combustion. Thallium can be found in two different oxidation states, Tl (I) and Tl (III). Although Tl (I) is more stable in aqueous solutions, Tl (III) forms complexes of greater stabi1ity. Therefore, the determination of chemical species in the environmental samples is important and it has considerably increased interest in the last few years.
