摘要:It is well known that by adding as little as 0.01 o/o titanium (Ti) and boron provide a fast and efficient grain refinement in aluminium alloys. Due to better feedability, grain refined aluminium alloys have less porosity comparing to unrefined alloys. Thus, castings made from grain refined aluminium alloys exhibit low segregation, higher mechanical properties and pressure tightness. However, there are still some discrepancies in, for example, adding master alloys into liquid aluminium, mechanisms of grain refining and the reproducibility of the refining. effect from one easting to another. In the present work, relaying on the literature, mechanisms of grain refining in aluminium alloys, the effect of titanium and boron on grain refining and the effects of grain refining on the feeding behavior of castings have been studied. The survey showed that shortly after addition, titanium reacts with boron resulting in formation of compound TiB2 which is an effective nucleus for aluminum and the TiB2 particles are almost insoluable in the liquid alloy.
