摘要:Thermal residual stresses occuring in borided materials has some adverse effects like boride cracks and delaminations. Therefore it is important to detect level of stresses occured after boriding and change mechanism depend on layer thickness. In this study, boride layer (Fe2B) formation on high-alloy steels and effect of layer thickness on residual stress distribution have been investigated by using finite elements method systematically. The result of the FEM analysis revealed that, the thermal-induced residual stresses increas with decreasing temperature of the cooling process. The occurance of compressive stresses on the boride layer and tensile stresses on the steel workpiece was deduced. It is also found that, with increasing layer thickness. The compressive stress on the boride layer decreses while tensile stress on steel workpiece and shear stress in the interlayer increases.
