标题:The Mediating Effect of Ambivalence Toward Emotional Expression in Relationships Between Perceived Parenting Attitudes and Peer Relationships in Children
摘要:Objectives: The purpose of this research was to investigate the relationship between perceived parenting attitudes, ambivalence toward emotional expression, and peer relationships perceived by children, and to verify the mediating effects of ambivalence toward emotional expression between peer relationships and paternal and maternal patenting attitudes. Methods: A package of self-reporting scales was applied to assess perceived parenting attitudes, ambivalence toward emotional expression, and peer relationships among 340 fifth- and sixth-grade students in two general elementary schools. Mediating effect was investigated using 3-stage multiple regression analysis based on Baron & Kenny (1986). Results: First, positive parenting attitude showed a positive association with peer relationships and a negative association with ambivalence toward emotional expression. Second, positive parenting attitude and peer relationships were partially mediated by ambivalence toward emotional expression. Conclusions: The results of this research showed that not only parenting attitudes but also ambivalence toward emotional expression attitude are important in enhancing peer relationships. These findings have implications for future research and practices for improving peer relationships in children.
