摘要：The article examines the preposition of as contrasted with off from and about. The semantic structure of these words is treated within the framework of the main typological characteristic of the English language,which is an analytical one. This approach explains the meaning of of,off from and about as resulting from the loss of inflected forms and morphology. These prepositions differ as discrete and diffusive ones.
