摘要:Character education has been initiated by the government and become the mainstream in various levels of education. For higher education institutions educating prospective teachers, character education should be made collective and sustained efforts. Programs and issues of character education must concern all civitas academica so that they possess character competence in the forms of moral knowing, moral feeling, and moral action. Character education can be conducted through its integration in the teaching and learning process of a foreign language (German). One of the modes of integration is through the interculture-based teaching and learning. With such a mode, the students are expected to gain intercultural competence (interculturelle competenzen). It is this competence that will become the basis for intercultural adaptation and communication while maintaining the Indonesian identity and character.
