摘要：Article discusses term “earthquake architecture” as a result of intersection of principles in architecture and earthquake engineering. The paper examines the hypothesis that the architectural design,which reflects the earthquake threat, might be an important source of stronger architectural identity,characteristic to earthquake prone areas. Purpose of the article is to encourage the development of the new principles of architectural design in these areas. Technology,codes and cooperation with earthquake engineers are not the only or satisfactory solutions for appropriate design of cultural landscape in the earthquake prone areas. Earthquake engineering has developed some basic concepts of earthquake resistant design,which can be subdivided to tectonic design,basic code protection,passive protection,active protection and developing systems. Some basic issues in regard to architectural concepts of building design are also presented. The role of architecture is defined as cultural phenomena with added artistic value in space. The possibilities of architectural response to the fact of earthquake threat are also analyzed. Earthquake architecture is determined with intersections of earthquake engineering and architecture. Intensity of relations between one and another field is divided to different levels. Higher levels of intensity interfere more into the filed of the earthquake architecture. The given examples interpret various levels of cooperation within earthquake architecture. The paper concludes a discussion about the synthesis and relations between architecture and earthquake engineering within the concept of earthquake architecture.
