摘要:The article presents a strategy for creating a transboundary database for the region on the eastern border of the European Union,partially exceeding European initiatives regarding the establishment of ESDI (European Spatial Data Infrastructure). The motivation for the research was the environmental value of the existing areas,and their role in joining five countries: Belarus, Lithuania,Poland,Russia,Ukraine. These territories are currently covered by the Man and Biosphere UNESCO Programme,which is performing some initiatives in this region regarding environment and local communities. The first is the international project “Establishment of a Transboundary Biosphere Reserve and a Regional Ecological Network in Polesie”. Geoinformation technologies are one of most important methods involved in all project objectives and are used for documentation and analysis purposes. From the GIS point of view,the project has a broad extent because of these characteristics: small scale result maps,multisource,multiscale and different quality source data integration,necessity of using the universal documentation and analysis technology and the need for comparability of research results. Full integration of data available for this area has been impossible to achieve. For this reason,it was proposed using remote sensing data as reference and application of object based automatic techniques for feature detection,as the main tool for mapping the environment. The article describes the main problems of transboundary research using GIS methods and proposes solutions in the following fields: (i) data integration for landscape mapping purposes;(ii) delimitation of the spatial base unit. Results of research showed the adequacy and usefulness of the proposed methodology. The article also presents limitations of the discussed approach and propositions regarding further research in this field. Finally,some propositions for further development of SDI (Spatial Data Infrastructure) in the representation of environmental objects is discussed.
