摘要：In 2001 the Geoinformatics Commission of the Polish Academy of Arts and Sciences in Cracow (PAU) initiated a project of a Multilingual Interdisciplinary Dictionary and Glossary of Terms for Geoinformatics. This aim was executed using an Internet formula. The employees of the Department of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing Informatics of AGH,financially supported by the AGH Rector and by The Kościuszko Foundation,prepared software which simultaneously edits the terms by many authors. The whole system (software + hardware) was installed on a fullyequipped,specially adopted server available at the Department of Photogrammetry. The studies performed for some years on the development of this Dictionary led to the definition of the first thematic sections and entries connected with Geoinformatics. For the dictionary,the name “Multilingual Interdisciplinary Dictionary and Glossary of Terms for Geoinformatics of the Polish Academy of Arts and Sciences (PAU)”,and the developed entries were the result of cooperation of many disciplines tied to geoinformatics. The Dictionary is divided into a few autonomous thematic sections: Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing,Geology,Geophysics and Environmental Protection, Geography,Cartography,Geodesy,Surveying and Spatial Information Systems,Mining and Mining Damage,Environmental Engineering,Soil Science,Computer Science,Cultural Heritage Recording. Last year’s activities involved expanding the dictionary to an English version. This allows expansion of the dictionary to universities and institutions abroad. The first volunteers have joined the project, and this will hopefully make the dictionary more popular. The PAU Commission Dictionary Team has already been joined by people from several national scientific centres. Currently,the Dictionary has a few hundred new terms from Geoinformatics,and also 2000 terms in 5 languages with explanations in Polish,taken from an older Dictionary edited by a team headed by Professor Zbigniew Sitek around 20 years ego. This paper is an attempt to make a summary of the work to date and to discuss the methods of editorial work organization in the nearest future.
