摘要：The administrative district (powiat) is a clearly distinguished fragment of geographical space,which may be regarded as the subject of various cartographic representations. It is possible to define the character of the maps being considered by the specification of two essential features: the geographical extent comprises the full area of a district and,secondly,the contents are focused on tourism and other public utilities. Although the maps are primarily designed for tourists,some of these give a wider range of information. The representation of facilities that are not purely oriented at tourists is the subject of particular discussion in the current paper. Education,culture, healthcare,security and law are the main thematic categories. Map symbols as well as additional descriptions representing such features are reviewed on the basis of 15 sample maps produced by different Polish publishing houses.
