For the Swiss Romand writer Jacques Chessex, the temporal issue revolves around the present perfect tense which is the only duration of the existence. His characters suffer from living an incomplete existence, being placed into a present perfect span of time, having the continuous feeling of the Unfinished. Even his autobiographical works fill in the same category. The strong feeling of a lack or an undefined loss is the cause of the writer’s tendency to describe in almost all his books a temporality which tortures him and gives him the possibility to become aware of his finitude,of his limits and imperfections. On the other hand,he attempts to escape this destructive temporality by means of his writings: « L’imparfait est mon lot,je ne suis rien,je ne fais rien que d’imparfait.
